Overview

FireFit began as a fitness app concept I worked on around three years ago. I returned to it after developing a stronger understanding of UI/UX and product design.

The redesign gave me an opportunity to revisit my earlier decisions, reconsider the interface, and explore how AI and VR might extend the experience. Rather than presenting the project as a finished product, I approached it as a chance to apply what I had learned and rethink an earlier piece of work.

Challenge

The challenge was to approach a familiar project with a different design perspective. I wanted to move beyond revisiting the visuals and consider how the product experience itself could evolve.

AI and VR offered possibilities for expanding the experience, but adding emerging technology does not automatically make a product more useful. The key question is whether these features address a real need for the people using the app.

Iterating on FireFit screens to refine navigation, interaction logic, and visual hierarchy across the app

Sources

The starting point was my original FireFit concept and the design knowledge I developed since creating it.

Constraints

FireFit is a concept redesign, not a confirmed production product. The original project dates back approximately three years, so this is also an exercise in revisiting earlier work with a different perspective.

There are no verified outcome metrics or user-testing results to report. Any claims about engagement, usability, or fitness outcomes would need evidence before they could be included.

Process

I returned to the original concept and reconsidered it with a stronger understanding of UI/UX and product design.

I used Figma and vibe coding in the redesign. I also explored AI and VR as potential additions to the experience. The specific screens changed, the detailed implementation workflow, and the reasoning behind individual interactions still need to be documented from the actual project.

Decisions & Tradeoffs

Revisit the concept rather than simply polish it. The point of the redesign was to apply what I had learned since the original project. That meant questioning the earlier direction rather than treating it as fixed.

Explore AI and VR, but don't assume they improve the product. These features could introduce new ways to interact with a fitness experience. They could also add complexity, unfamiliar interactions, and additional effort. Whether the benefits outweigh those costs needs to be tested.

Result

The result is a redesigned fitness app concept that reflects my development as a designer and explores AI and VR as possible extensions of the experience.

The redesign demonstrates a new design direction, not a measured improvement in user experience. No validated performance outcomes have been established.

What I’d Do Next

I'd first define the target audience and the specific fitness problem FireFit is intended to address.

Then I'd test the core flows with potential users before evaluating the AI and VR additions separately. If those features do not solve a meaningful problem or improve the experience, I'd simplify the product rather than retain them for novelty.

I’m looking for roles where the interface has to carry real complexity. If that’s what you’re hiring for, I’d like to hear about it.
