Overview
FireFit is a personal fitness tracking application that has evolved alongside my maturing understanding of product design, interaction patterns, and systems thinking. While the original version prioritized intensity through bold colors and dense data to drive motivation, the expansion into complex features—including onboarding flows, AI/AR integrations, and detailed health tracking—necessitated a shift toward greater clarity. This redesign represents a deliberate evolution of that initial concept, refining navigation and simplifying components into a cohesive design system that ensures scalability and usability while maintaining the app’s signature high-energy identity.
Project Overview
FireFit is an iterative redesign of a personal fitness tracking app, focused on improving clarity, interaction logic, and system consistency across a growing set of features.
To evolve the FireFit mobile app from an early, high-intensity design into a more structured, scalable, and user-friendly fitness experience. The project aimed to improve navigation consistency, reduce cognitive overload, refine complex interactions such as the countdown timer, and unify branding across onboarding, dashboards, AI/AR features, and settings—while preserving the app’s bold, energetic identity.
FireFit began as an exploration of a visually aggressive, motivation-driven fitness interface. As the app expanded to include detailed onboarding flows, daily activity tracking, timers, AI features, AR experiences, and settings, design complexity increased significantly. This created an opportunity to step back and reassess the overall structure, visual hierarchy, and interaction patterns.
The redesign represents a conscious evolution of the original concept. Rather than starting from scratch, the project focused on refining existing ideas—simplifying layouts, standardizing navigation, fixing interaction edge cases, and introducing a cohesive design system. The result is a more controlled, intuitive experience that supports long-term use while maintaining the intensity and personality expected from a fitness app.
Design Approach
The approach for FireFit focused on iterative refinement rather than a complete redesign. Since this was my own product, I treated the process as a continuous evaluation of real usability issues, visual overload, and interaction breakdowns that emerged as the app grew in complexity.
I approached the redesign by identifying friction points across onboarding, navigation, and feature-heavy screens such as the countdown timer, AI tools, and settings. Each issue was addressed through small, intentional design decisions—simplifying layouts, standardizing components, and correcting interaction logic—while maintaining the app’s high-energy fitness identity.
I began by reviewing the original FireFit experience holistically, mapping user flows from app launch to advanced feature usage. This helped surface inconsistencies in bottom navigation, unclear screen hierarchies, and interaction bugs—particularly within the countdown timer and preset behaviors.
Rather than redesigning screens in isolation, I focused on building a cohesive system. This included unifying navigation across all screens, refining complex components like the SVG-based timer, removing unnecessary UI controls, and standardizing visual patterns across onboarding, dashboards, AI, AR, and settings. Branding was also reinforced by introducing a consistent logo and an aggressive, high-impact loading screen to strengthen first impressions.
This approach ensured that each iteration not only improved individual screens but also strengthened FireFit as a scalable, coherent product.
Process
An iterative, system-focused design process that evolved an early fitness app concept into a scalable, consistent, and interaction-driven product experience
The process began with a full audit of the original FireFit design, reviewing every screen from onboarding to advanced features such as the countdown timer, AI tools, and settings. I mapped key user flows to identify where visual overload, inconsistent navigation, and interaction issues were occurring as the app grew in complexity.
Next, I prioritized high-impact fixes. This included standardizing the bottom navigation across all screens, simplifying onboarding steps, removing redundant UI controls, and rebuilding complex components like the SVG-based countdown timer to behave correctly across different presets. Each change was tested within the broader system to ensure consistency rather than treating screens in isolation.
Finally, I focused on refinement and polish. This stage involved unifying branding through a consistent logo system, designing an aggressive loading experience aligned with FireFit’s identity, refining spacing and typography, and ensuring that all screens—from dashboards to AI and AR features—felt cohesive and intentional.
Design Philosophy
FireFit balances intensity with clarity. The design maintains a bold, high-energy fitness identity while prioritizing consistency, usability, and control—ensuring users stay motivated without feeling overwhelmed as the product scales.
Final Design
The final FireFit design delivers a bold yet controlled fitness experience through a unified design system, refined interactions, and consistent navigation across onboarding, tracking, and advanced features.
Clear & Consistent Navigation
Refined Interaction Design
Scalable Design System
Strong, Unified Branding
The final FireFit design is a cohesive, system-driven mobile fitness app that balances intensity with clarity. The experience flows seamlessly from onboarding to daily tracking, timers, AI and AR features, and settings—without sacrificing usability or consistency.
By refining navigation, fixing interaction edge cases, and unifying branding, FireFit evolved from an early high-energy concept into a scalable product experience built for long-term use. The result is an app that feels powerful, intentional, and intuitive, supporting users throughout their fitness journey.
Achievements
The FireFit redesign resulted in a cohesive, scalable fitness app experience with improved navigation, refined interactions, and a unified visual system across all features.
Through iterative design and continuous refinement, FireFit evolved from a high-intensity visual concept into a controlled, system-driven product experience. Key achievements included fixing complex interaction issues in the countdown timer, standardizing bottom navigation across all screens, simplifying onboarding flows, and removing redundant UI elements that added unnecessary friction.
The project also established a strong and consistent brand presence through a unified logo system and an aggressive, high-impact loading experience. By addressing both visual and interaction-level challenges, the final design supports long-term scalability while maintaining the motivational energy expected from a fitness application.
